Winter Driving

With the winter travel season upon us yet again it is always handy to call 511 to check road and weather conditions before you venture out. For those who don’t know 511 is the shortcut to your state’s road weather and hazard hotline. However, what do you do if you want the next state over? Of course the first choice is to look it up online, google is always your friend. But if you are on the road and don’t have access to the net there still are the old fashioned 800 numbers that still work.

Below are a selection of the regional numbers from the Iowa State University mesonet.

Iowa : 800-288-1047
Illinois : 800-452-4368
Kansas : 800-585-7623
Minnesota : 800-542-0220
Missouri : 800-222-6400
Nebraska : 402-471-4533
South Dakota : 605-367-5707
Wisconsin : 800-762-3947

Of course, while you are at it you can always check out my weather summery page.
